Exploring Fashion, Identity, and Simplicity at Swara – Fashion, You and We

Fashion is not just what we wear—it’s how we see ourselves, how we express, and sometimes, how we evolve. On June 28th, 2025, Pinkishe Foundation’s celebrated literary and cultural platform Swara hosted an engaging and thoughtful session on a theme that touches every life in subtle yet significant ways: Fashion, You and We.

The session was beautifully hosted by Vandana Rani Dayal, and featured the charismatic and inspiring Surekha Jain—an educationist, motivational speaker, and seasoned Akashvani talker. Together, they led a vibrant conversation that seamlessly wove personal identity, social influence, and self-expression through the lens of fashion.

Where Simplicity Meets Modern Style

From the very beginning, the session challenged the common perception that fashion is only about following trends. Instead, it brought forward the idea that fashion can be both elegant in simplicity and bold in self-expression. Surekha Jain shared how today’s fashion reflects the diverse roles women play in society—balancing tradition and modernity, responsibility and individuality.

The conversation celebrated the idea that style does not need to shout—it can also whisper, softly and meaningfully. Whether through a khadi kurta or a power blazer, every choice tells a story. Participants resonated deeply with this reminder that being fashionable doesn’t mean losing authenticity; it’s about embracing who you are in the way that feels right to you.

Fashion as Expression, Not Pressure

In a world of fast fashion and social media glamour, many feel pressured to fit into pre-decided molds. This Swara session brought a breath of fresh air by highlighting that fashion is not a rulebook—it’s a personal diary. It’s okay to not follow every trend. It’s okay to be different.

Surekha Jain, with her years of experience in education and public speaking, emphasized the importance of teaching young girls to dress with confidence—not competition. She spoke of fashion as a medium of self-awareness, not self-doubt. Her anecdotes and insights offered both wisdom and warmth, inspiring the audience to think deeply about how they relate to their appearance and presence in public spaces.

Swara: Where Conversations Go Beyond the Surface

Swara, as always, created a space for not just dialogue but shared reflection. It is not just a stage—it is a circle of voices where thoughts are heard, feelings are honored, and culture is celebrated. The session welcomed questions, stories, and perspectives from participants, making it a truly participatory experience.

The topic Fashion, You and We wasn’t just about clothing—it was about how society, personal choice, and identity intersect. It was about women finding strength in their softness and pride in their presence—whether wrapped in a sari or draped in denim.

Why These Dialogues Matter

Fashion may seem like a lighthearted topic, but its implications run deep. It shapes how we’re seen and how we see ourselves. At Pinkishe Foundation, we believe that every woman deserves the right to feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in her own skin. Events like this Swara session reaffirm our commitment to fostering dialogue that empowers, educates, and uplifts.

In a world that often tells women to fit in, this conversation reminded us of the power of standing out—authentically, proudly, and with grace.

We thank Surekha Jain for her presence and insights, and all attendees who contributed their thoughts and energy to this event. Until next time, stay expressive, stay original, and let your fashion speak your truth.
